Sixth Annual Wag-N-Wheel Walk, September 12, 2009
Some people walked, some people wheeled, and all the dogs were wagging their tails
at this years’ fundraiser.
The weather was perfect for this September 12th event, which had three great outdoor K9 demonstrations.
- Dance’s With Woofs –high level obedience routines set to music. Fantastic!
- Twin Cities Disc Dog Club – dogs and “Frisbees” flying through the air. Wow!
- Two working dogs came with Sheila Fry from the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives.
Sheila explained how explosive detection dogs live and work, and how they keep us all a little safer.
Thank you to all sponsors and participants for another successful event!
With attendance measured in the hundreds of thousands, the Minnesota State Fair is a perfect place for Puppy Love to meet the public and raise awareness of the value of assistance dogs.
Fairgoers asked many good questions about the organization, and were invited to pet the dogs once their working capes came off. See you again next year!
5th Annual Wag-N-Wheel Benefit Walk - September 13, 2008
Puppy Love Caring Canine’s 5th annual Wag-N-Wheel fundraiser was a major success, in spite of rainy weather. Participants were treated to a “dog fair” in the pavilion of Lac Lavon park in Burnsville.
Everyone got a K9 gift bag, a bandana for their dog and some human treats from Pearson’s Candy. Money was raised through a silent auction and a raffle…all the items were donated by individuals and local businesses.
Jil Ocel and Marthe Herbert from Pearson’s Animal Ambassadors provided an up-close exotic animal encounter with a possum, a three banded armadillo, a chinchilla and an african gray parrot.
There was also a presentation by veterinarian Dr. Kate An Hunter, discussing dog fitness and conditioning.
The obedience class, Dances With Woofs, did four outstanding performances for all to enjoy!
Thanks to all who participated in the walk and also to those people who just stopped by to make a donation!
Hope to see you next year!
Puppy Love Caring Canines Inc. representatives were at three Oreck Home Store locations on September 20th, 2008. We were warmly welcomed by Oreck employees at the Apple Valley, Woodbury and Coon Rapids stores. Customers had a chance to meet us, and ask questions about our organization and what the dogs are trained to do. Oreck donated 15% of all sales and services sold that weekend, to Puppy Love. Thanks to Oreck for the support!
Pop Tops For Puppy Love 2007/08
What a great year! As you may know the Pop-Tops are saved from the beginning of each school year and sold the end of summer vacation. This was the largest collection of the past 3 years, because of your contributions, we were able to donate $600 Dollars this year. It took a team effort by lots of you, there are two Elementary schools, (Turtle Lake & Pinewood) and lots of people from Minnesota Good Sam Camping Clubs. When everyone works together it’s surprising what you can do. This money is a wonderful charity gift and goes directly for the care and training of Service Dogs by ‘Puppy Love Caring Canines.” They then become invaluable helpers to make life better for a handicapped individual. This is all accomplished mostly free of charge as a result of help like yours. Please keep it up and watch the jars fill with the Pop-Tops again.
Some have asked “Why Pop-Tops?” – Well, the aluminum cans are bulky, messy and take up lots of space to store. Pop-Tops are clean and easy to save. The price is the same as for aluminum cans; therefor people are more willing to help. This year we had 800 pounds of Pop-Tops. It may be of interest to know that it takes about 1,520 Pop-Tops to make just 1 pound. That means that this year we had at least 1,216,000 Pop-Tops –They filled a 4 x 8 utility trailer!
Puppy Love Caring Canines at the Minnesota State Fair - August 29, 2008
This years’ great Minnesota get together included Puppy Love Caring Canines doing demonstrations outside the Pet Center before an enthusiastic crowd.
The teams that did demonstrations were: one alert dog that signals her owner of debilitating migraines; a service dog in training, a service dog that helps with its owner’s daily activities and a certified service and therapy dog handled by our executive director, Grete Krause. Grete told the audience how Puppy Love was created and how it has grown in seven years. She covered upcoming events, and how to approach a service dog in public. Grete also invited volunteers and potential clients to join the Puppy Love Caring Canines family.
Twin Cities Live - July 29, 2008
Helene Spring and her assistance dog Sprite appeared on Twin Cities Live, a local television show.
She explained how Sprite helps her in her daily life at home and in public.
Helene suffers from debilitating migraine headaches and Sprite’s job is to alert her before they happen, so she can take medication and stay in a safe location.
Helene told her personal “Puppy Love Story”: how she found the organization, and learned everything involved with training an alert dog.
Helene enjoyed the TV experience, but the real value of her appearance is the awareness it brings to the value of all assistance dogs.
Spring Samboree - May 2008
Puppy Love Caring Canines did demonstrations for Good Sams RV club members at their spring “Samboree”. Grete Krause gave an overview of the Puppy Love organization and how the clients benefit from the dogs. Five dogs and their human partners showed off their skills. There was a question and answer period afterward, and club members supported Puppy Love by donating aluminum pop tabs worth hundreds of dollars. Puppy Love is grateful for all the support the Good Sams clubs are giving the organization! Thank you!
SPRING OPEN HOUSE - APRIL 12, 2008
Puppy Love celebrated spring at Peterson’s Country Mill in North Branch, Minnesota with three teams doing demonstrations throughout the day. There was an alert dog, a hearing dog, and a therapy dog. The puppy Love representatives spoke with members of the community about our service dogs. People asked questions about assistance dog training, the organization, and how to become a volunteer.
Peterson’s Country Mill was once a flour mill that made rye flour and today it is a lawn, garden, landscape and animal supply store rich with history. The minor snowfall did not diminish interest in spring, or Puppy Love Caring Canines.
Oreck Fundraiser September 15, 2007
Puppy Love Caring Canines participated in its first fundraiser with the Oreck Company. Oreck Company donated a percentage of its sales from a sales event to our organization. What a fun day it was!! Two teams, Kallie & Grete, Sprite & Helene spent the day at the Apple Valley store talking to people about our wonderful organization. An information table with treats and beverages was set up. After the sales personnel did their product demonstrations, people approached our teams and we provided an overview and awareness about Assistance Dogs, Puppy Love Caring Canines organization, and what rewards and benefits these special dogs bring to the people they touch.
The local community was so touched by Puppy Love, that they handed dog treats to the handlers, provided names of potential clients, and other non-monetary donations. This fundraising event was so successful that Oreck Company has asked PLCC back again in the coming months. We hope to see you there!!

Inside a PLCC program team was talking to potential volunteers and clients at the information table.

The three teams that did demonstrations were: one assistance dog that helps its owner with stability due to a medical condition, a dog who signals its owner of debilitating migraines, and an assistance dog who is being trained for a future client.
Hundreds of people attended the 2 shows. Grete spoke about how Puppy Love was created and its history, how a person can be a potential client, how one can become volunteer, and the do's and don't when approaching an assistance dog.

PUPPY LOVE CARING CANINES AT THE NORTH BRANCH EXPO!
For the fourth consecutive year, Puppy Love Caring Canines was invited to participate in the North Branch Community Expo. The event was held on March 18, 2006.
Hundreds of people attend this event each year to learn more about area businesses and services.
This was a great opportunity for the general public to learn more about Puppy Love and meet some of the dogs. Education and raising awareness of what these dogs can do for people is one main focus of Puppy Love Caring Canines, and this expo gave us a chance to spread the word!
Puppy Love shared a booth with We ‘R’ Able. This community education program offers classes, activities and support for many people in Minnesota.
